Topeka, KS — “Hacktivist” group Anonymous recently announced that the extremist Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church is actually a front for a group of pro-homosexual activists on popular Internet “imageboard” 4chan. The members, who actively participate in 4chan’s LGBT board formed what we now know as the anti-homosexual-obsessed “church” in 2006, carefully constructing a fake history of its bigoted members and staging hateful protests.
Arguing against what is sometimes called the “repressive hypothesis,” the idea that western society suppressed sexuality from the 17th to the mid-20th century due to the rise of capitalism and bourgeois society, the 4chan activists employed anarchist techniques to further their pro-LGBT agenda. One of the notable and more arguably successful goals, was to create a group so vile, that “even mainstream cultural conservatives” would be repulsed by their activity and have “flexible empathy” in promoting progressive causes, according to the Anonymous video release.
According to social scientists, it appears the 4chan group has been reading the works of Michel Foucault, the 20th Century French philosopher who maintained that the “repressive hypothesis” was backwards; that seemingly “sexually repressive” institutions such as the Catholic Church with its “confessional” mechanisms actually promoted discussion and ultimately the liberalization of what were sexual mores.
“When you see what the 4chan people have accomplished, you have to admit that it was genius,” said Professor James Badwater of the University of Chicago. “They used absurdist repression techniques in a way to alienate cultural conservatives from their strident positions on human sexuality. It’s old-fashioned Aristotelian catharsis. It’s theater, in the real world. Suddenly, many conservatives were aware of how bigoted they were. In other words, what I’m saying is that the Westboro Baptist Church ‘experiment’ did more for LGBT rights than 40 years of normal activism. How else would you explain the extraordinary transformation in public opinion in a relatively short period of time.”
At the time of this writing, the 4chan activists remain hidden, but other 4chan members contacted The Fazzler with addition detail on the WBC operation.
“All the members of WBC are ‘actor-lawyers,” said one anonymous 4chan participant. “The whole thing is stage and underwritten by some silent rich person. The WBC people you see on TV, including that dead asshole Fred Phelps were all on salary. And it was all organized through 4chan.”
It is unclear what will become of the 4chan operation now that they have been exposed. But according to Professor Badwater, activities like this should put the public on alert.
“If this says anything, it’s that the media-consuming public needs to sharpen their critical thinking skills and stop just repeating what the see and hear,” said a concerned Professor Badwater. “I mean, look how upside down all this is at the same time being so effective. I’m not telling everyone to walk around looking for a conspiracy under every stone, I’m simply saying that people need to be more skeptical, backed by research.”
