Dalai Lama Finds Time to Relax with a Fidget Spinner

Dayton, OH — His holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama surprised audience members at this year’s 7th Annual Ohio Spiritual Awakening Festival or OSAF when he mentioned that he used a fidget spinner to occasionally “relax and center himself after a hectic day.”  A fidget spinner is a toy that consists of a bearing in the center of a multi-lobed flat structure made from metal or plastic designed to spin along its axis with little effort.

Fidget spinners became popular toys in 2017, although similar devices had already been invented as early as 1993. The toy became popular among schoolchildren and consequently some schools banned the spinners. However during his 45 minute speech at OSAF entitled “Finding Compassion By Embracing Your Enemies” the Dalai Lama said he was confused why Schools in the United States would ban something harmless and ultimately soothing.

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions,” said the Dalai Lama approximately 25 minutes into his talk, “which is why I don’t understand this antipathy towards these delightful devices. I use one to help me focus and center my mind. I urge schools to reconsider their usefulness.”

At that point, the Dalai Lama removed a red fidget spinner from his cloak, and began playing with it on the lectern. As he spun it, he began to giggle. Soon an infectious laughter spread throughout the auditorium and within a few seconds the entire 2000 member audience at the Dayton Convention Center were in hysterics.

After a few moments when the laughter died down, the Dalia Lama continued.

“This is happiness,” continued the Dalia Lama. “The purpose of our lives is to be happy. We all have to live together, so we might as well live together happily.”

According to a spokesperson for the Dalia Lama, his holiness has 3 different fidget spinners, but he prefers the red one.
