Dublin, CA — The popular American “off-price” department store Ross quietly began featuring various “sharia-compliant” clothing early this month in select California stores. The move, which surprised its shoppers and retail industry analysts, marked a bold and aggressive entry into the burgeoning “conservative Muslim” marketplace in the United States.
“I’m not sure how this will work in the rest of America,” said avid Ross shopper Janet Williams of Cedar Ridge, CA who was shopping at the newly-opened Ross in Rocklin a few miles from her home. “But I think it will be just fine here. I mean, it’s already pretty diverse here in California, and no one will even raise an eyebrow.”
According to Ross Director of Marketing Bethany Millbright, it was a fiscally sound move by the retailing giant.
“Ross always has its pulse on the heartbeat of change,” said Ms. Millbright speaking from Ross Dublin, CA headquarters late last week. “Even if that pulse is a year later. None the less, it’s obvious that sharia law is on the verge of conquering the United States, so we wanted to get out in front of this monumental change and offer clothing to those women who want to avoid a terrifying caning at the hands of the sharia cultural police, but are still looking for a great value.”
According to store associates, the reaction has been mixed.
“Well, I don’t like getting all political on the job, but you can guess who’s OK with this and who’s not,” said Ross checkout clerk Deanna Cavalier who was finishing her swing shift at the Rocklin location. “It’s pretty much the same as people who voted in the last election. You know, Hillary supporters are all for it and Trump ones get pissed off about it.”
According to Ms. Millbright, the sharia clothing line has been a success in its California pilot program, and the retail giant plans on extending the offering to stores in 33 other States by this summer.
