Nevada City, CA — The Nevada City Film Festival will debut filmmaker Michael Moore’s first movie release since 2015’s Where to Invade Next?. His new film, Arm The Homeless, is a documentary based on the creation of a charity to help the homeless people of Washington, D.C. However, Moore’s new charity, “Tough Love”, comes with a catch. Instead of providing the local homeless with food and shelter, this charity aims to give them guns and ammunition.
“In this day of multinational corporate fascism, economic hedonism, flagrant corruption of our political system and the pandemic of homelessness, the Arm The Homeless movement could be the shot in the arm that this country needs to level the playing field”, said Mr. Moore this morning outside the Miner’s Foundry in Nevada City.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the number of homeless people living in Washington in 2013 was around 6,865; and 633,782 people across America were homeless at a given point of time in 2012. According to Amnesty International USA, vacant houses outnumber homeless people by five times.
Michael Moore is the director and producer of Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), which is the highest-grossing documentary of all time and winner of the Palme d’Or, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival in France. His film Bowling for Columbine (2002) won the Academy Award for Documentary Feature.
In September 2008, he released his first free movie on the Internet, Slacker Uprising, which documented his personal quest to encourage more Americans to vote in presidential elections. He has also written and starred in the TV shows TV Nation and The Awful Truth.
